YouTube to bring free movies to UK

After striking deals with a number of Hollywood studios including Lionsgate, MGM and Sony Pictures and British company Blinkbox, YouTube is set to relaunch its movies section of the site to the UK. According to UK newspaper The Guardian, the service is to offer 400 movie titles from these studios, and most likely to include classics and mainstream titles from a couple of years ago.

Hollywood illegally demands money, targets kindergartners

The Motion Picture Licensing Company (MPLC), collecting royalties on behalf of the Hollywood studios in Ireland, has demanded payments from kindergartens in Ireland; requesting that 3 Euros (or AU$5.36), plus 17.5% VAT, per child per annum just so the children can watch DVDs legally. RealNetworks files suit against movie studios over RealDVD

RealDVD, though it has only been available for an hour or so, has already gotten the Hollywood movie studios upset about the “ramifications” it could have on the movie industry, according to TechCrunch. According to a statement released by RealNetworks, the developers of the software, it has filed a lawsuit against the studios asking that the court rule that RealDVD “fully complies with the DVD Copy Control Association’s license agreement.” […]

Pirates to sue media giants

The Pirate Bay has filed criminal charges against the big media companies over alleged attacks against the site. The police complaint, which names all the Swedish subsidiaries of music and movie companies, follows a leak over the letters of MediaDefender, a firm allegedly hired to disrupt the site torrent tracker.
