Samsung confirms “curved screen” phone as Galaxy Round – coming to Korea on Oct 9

After leaks online, Samsung has pretty much lifted the lid of its new curved screen phone. Dubbed the Galaxy Round, the phone will feature a 5.7-inch screen and will be available only in Korea (for now) on October 9.

Other specs include a 2.3GHz quad-core processor, a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage onboard. It also has NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and LTE connectivity; and runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. According to Samsung Tomorrow, the phone will also feature a faux-leather back similar to the Galaxy Note 3.

The phone’s user interface will take advantage of the round screen, with a new feature called “Home Interaction” that will let user look at the time and date, missed calls, and battery life by tilting the phone. Transitioning between pages on the homescreen, according to the report on a South Korean website, is claimed to be seamless thanks to the screen.

The phone will cost 1.09 million won, or around AUD$1077, in luxury brown. Samsung hasn’t announced international availability, and we’ve asked Samsung Australia for a comment.
