And you thought a BlackBerry PlayBook discount was in the works? Optus has decided to give the device for free, if you purchase the BlackBerry Torch 9860 with it under Optus’ $49 Cap plan (or above) between now and the end of January.
Yes. You read that right. You’ll get a BlackBerry PlayBook for free.
Granted, you’ll be tied with a 24-month contract with this phone – which runs on the new BlackBerry 7 OS, feature a 3.7-inch touchscreen and comes with 4GB of internal memory. As well, you will also have to pay for a separate 3G plan for the tablet – so that will most likely compensate the loss Optus will be making by doing this deal.
The tablet has effectively become a massive failure for RIM. The company hasn’t sold the tablet well to consumers – who are either flocking to the iPad or their Android competitors (though, they are also losing to the iPad). Despite the well-received multimedia functionality, reviews for the device were lackluster at best.
And now RIM’s in trouble. With this and the constant data problems, isn’t it about time to sack management? May I suggest the two co-CEOs?
(Yes, they do have two CEOs. Whoever thought of that was a good idea must have been high)
