Motorola has today announced the launch of a Wi-Fi only version of the Motorola XOOM. The tablet still features the same hardware as its 3G counterpart – 1GHz dual core processor, 1GB of RAM and a 10.1 display – but will run on Android 3.1.
The Wi-Fi only version will also include some improvements including support for PC joysticks and gamepads via USB, support for picture transfer directly from a camera via USB, improved multi-tasking and Adobe Flash preloaded. Most of the new additions come from the new update to Honeycomb – Android 3.0.
And for those who have the 3G version, which is currently on sale with Telstra, will also get the Android 3.1 update in July – though that date is from Motorola, and is subject to carrier availability. The update will also see the microSD card slot activated on the Motorola XOOM – yes, you heard that right, meaning that you can have up to 64GB.
The tablet will be on sale via JB Hi-FI today, among selected retailers elsewhere, for AU$689.
