Reports are now circulating, before its conference at E3 this week, that Microsoft will be planning to reveal a new subscription TV service for the Xbox 360. According to sources, the new service will be dubbed “Xbox LIVE Diamond” and is in last-minute negotiations to secure agreements.
“Microsoft is currently in last minute negotiations to secure the necessary agreements in time,” one source told Winrumours.
“Apple is in a similar position, speaking to several media groups ahead of its iCloud announcement on Monday.”
The new service will use existing Microsoft technologies already used, such as Mediaroom – which is the technology that powers Xbox 360’s IPTV services, such as Foxtel in Australia and Sky in the United Kingdom. The new service will likely integrate the new music and video services – which will dump the Zune brand in favour for Xbox.
While its main focus is to launch in the US, it is unknown if it will launch internationally.
