Apple’s iTunes Activation Server – the server that verifies your iOS device in order to deliver firmware updates – is currently being reported to be down and has taken thousands of devices with it, leaving them bricked. Not a great way to enjoy the weekend, is it now.

Forums on the Support Communities are reporting the issue. It also appears to not be an isolated problem, with people from Sweden, Russia, Cyprus and Armenia having trouble with the activation server – and on both Windows and Macs. It appears that non-jailbroken phones are affected, in addition to (though not confirmed) jailbroken phones.

The problem is essentially after upgrading the firmware through the latest iTunes. While it is able to upgrade, it has not been able to contact the servers.
