Perth-based ISP iiNet has announced a partnership with Microsoft that will now allow the company expand beyond providing the internet to business customers, but host their websites and backup servers with the launch of its Australian-based Windows Server VPS hosting.
VPS – or Virtual Private Servers – plans from iiNet will come in three varieties – one for $29.95 for a 1GHz CPU and 25GB of storage; $49.95 for 30GB of storage and a 2GHz CPU; and $99.95 for 50GB of storage and a 3GHz CPU. Each plan as 1 static IP address and offers both Windows and Linux varieties.
With the launch, customers will now be able to choose between Linux and Windows – two of the most common operating systems used in the web. The prices are very cheap compared to many due to the fact that licensing pushes the price up unlike their Linux counterparts. Even better is that iiNet is offering the first three months at half price until the end of March (and if you have a six-month contract)
Downside is that it uses Windows Server 2003 – not the latest Windows Server 2008 version. So, if you want to be a bit more secure, maybe you should wait a bit as implementation of the latest version is “coming soon”.
