The crutial vote of Senator Nick Xenophon has paved the way for the 50 page report to be billed into the Senate. According to many news reports, the cost to taxpayers for the implementation of the plan is approx. $35.7 billion, not recent reports of 43 billion.
The bill will force Telstra to split it’s wholesale and retail arms allowing to concentrate on the project.
The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the report will show that broadband prices would fall and the market would be a lot more competitive.
“We’ve determined, following those discussions, that it is possible to publicly release carefully selected materials which answer some of their questions and which allow them to explain to their constituents their decision making process,” Prime Minister Gillard said.
