Geohot has done it again, releasing a jailbreak for iOS 4.0-4.1. The jailbreak is untethered and compatible with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 4 and iPod Touch 3. It’s available for Windows only at the moment, but Mac and Linux versions are expected to be coming soon.
On the official Limera1n website Geohot writes that it’s compatible with not only 4.0-4.1 but ” beyond+++”, meaning this jailbreak may be unpatchable.
Geohot also writes that it was, “released today to get chronicdev to do the right thing,” which might have something to do with ChronicDev’s GreenPois0n which was expected to be released tomorrow. The jailbreak also uses the untethered feature from Comex’s JailbreakMe.com, but this feature has reportedly been used by Geohot without permission.
Geohot says that it’s not one-click and the jailbreak is reportedly using a buggy beta exploit.
Some known bugs are that the 3GS new bootrom is broken and that your device requires a restart before Cydia shows up.
Some rival developers are a bit annoyed by Geohots release. MuscleNerd, part of iPhone Dev Team, is also, according to Engadget, saying that limera1n will re-lock iPhones that were unlocked by ultrasn0w and recommends people skip Limera1n.
Sorry if some facts are incorrect.
