Google prepares to make iPad rival?

By on

Google is said to be preparing to make a rival to the Apple iPad, with a rumoured Android-powered tablet, according to the New York Times. According to the paper, Eric Schmidt confirmed the existence of the device to friends at a recent part in Los Angeles; along with some experimenting with a few publishers to find a way to deliver books and magazines – similar to what the iPad does (and the iPhone/iPod touch soon) with its iBooks app.

And while we are on the subject of tablet rivals, remember HP has a slate coming out soon, plus Microsoft has Courier – though NYT reports that engineers over at the Windows maker have some concerns over the battery power needed to run two screens and its coming out in 2011, though that’s not been confirmed. Also reported is that Nokia is working on an e-reader, though Nokia has no comment on its existence.
