RUMOUR MILL: It looks like Heroes could be given its final chapter, with rumours of its demise circling around the web today. Sources talking to sci-fi site Airlock Alpha has said that executives from NBC (the channel that airs it in America) have told producers to wind down the series, with the finale pencilled in in May.
“There isn’t much happening with this show in terms of audience, and giving it a ‘final chapter’ feel is something the network is considering to help allow the show to go out with a bang,” the source said.
Heroes started off with a bang with it being the most buzzed show on NBC. A year later, however, audiences started shifting away, finishing second to Lost. But by its third season, it lost 29 percent of its audience from a year before. This year, it is at its lowest, averaging only 3.6 million and is 45 percent down from season two, and it is the lowest rated show on the network, and last out of all the free to air networks in the United States.
NBC, however, has denied the claims, but has not confirmed the future of the show.
Heroes moves from Seven to 7TWO, its new digital channel that launches today at noon, with a brand new timeslot on 8:30PM Wednesday with a double episode.
