The $500 million 3G network upgrade from Vodafone Australia, with self-imposed deadline of Christmas to complete the upgrades, has been delayed as its supplier, Ericsson, has said that it needs more time to finish building the upgrade.
It originally announced the plans in December of last year, hoping to extend its 3G network coverage to 95 percent of the country. It is now expected that the upgrades are to be completed in the first half of 2009. The delay, however, was caused by concerns over its integration of its new network and the existing network, covering over 68 percent of Australia.
This week, Vodafone announced that it has made an exclusive deal with Research In Motion to sell the BlackBerry Storm in several countries, including Australia.
