Halo 3 rakes in $170 millon in one day

Halo 3, Microsoft’s Entertainment division’s last hope to get a profit, has raked in $170 million in the US alone on launch day. This puts it as a bigger launch day than the Spiderman 3 movie and the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book.

Microsoft included a 48 hour trial edition of the game on Xbox Live, with over 1 million playing it on September 25th. Many people waited across 10,000 stores at midnight to pick up the final edition of the Halo trilogy; with more than 1.7 million were pre-ordered.
