Digg, the powerful leader in news social bookmarking, has fallen to the mob. This happened after a story of a HD-DVD crack. A company demanded for it to be taken down and it was deleted. … There are also many posts still up as a protest. Gizmodo has mentioned that the HD DVD group are sponsers. Digg, however, could not stop the riot or even control it; or face wide deletion of members or entire site lockdown to stop the posts.
Later, Kevin Rose posted on their blog; trying to make the ‘diggers’ stop by giving into their demands.
But now, after seeing hundreds of stories and reading thousands of comments, youâ€™ve made it clear. Youâ€™d rather see Digg go down fighting than bow down to a bigger company. We hear you, and effective immediately we wonâ€™t delete stories or comments containing the code and will deal with whatever the consequences might be.
If we lose, then what the hell, at least we died trying.
