2011 – A Year of Many Things: A recap of the big events of the year

The year 2011 was one year that we will all never forget. Even though they were all in the beginning of the year, the floods in Queensland and Brazil, the earthquakes in Christchurch and the tsunami in the north of Japan are still present in all of our minds. We also saw the death of a tech luminary, Steve Jobs; and the powerful News Corporation losing its influence over politicians in the UK after the phone hacking scandal took a drastic turn from celebrities to victims of crime.

Minecraft coming to Xbox Live this Summer

Microsoft’s E3 conference brought big news for indie developer Mojang, the creators of Minecraft. The game will be coming to Xbox 360 this Summer (probably December – February). And all that Microsoft announced was Kinect support and possible exclusivity.

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee remake in the works

Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, the classic PS1 game, will be getting the HD treatment according to Lorne Lanning, the series creator.

The remake will be developed by Just Add Water, who are currently working on the upcoming remake of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath for PlayStation 3.

Call of Duty: Black Ops First Map Pack Preview

Today Treyarch, the creators of Call of  Duty: Black Ops, have released the first preview video of the first map pack, First Strike.  This map pack will be released on the 1st of February 2011 on the Xbox 360 and will cost 1200 Microsoft Points.  The details of the PC and PS3 release is currently unknown.

First Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC

Today Treyarch, the developers of the Call of Duty: Black Ops, have announced their plans on releasing the first DLC for the game. The DLC is called First Strike and is rumoured to cost US$15 but Treyarch have yet to disclose the cost.  The DLC is a map pack which will include four multiplayer maps, Berlin Wall, Discovery, Stadium and Kowloon; and one Zombie map called Ascension.  The sad news is that this DLC will be released on Xbox LIVE before being release on the Playstation Network.  The date for the Xbox LIVE released is February 1st.
