We’re back with a new episode, and while the tech industry is at a standstill, the Internet gets a red-light district, and the Zune bids adieu. Meanwhile, the week has been dominated by security flaw after security flaw, and Rebecca Black infects our Chris’ mind with the weekend.
The internet is to get a little bit dirtier, or cleaner, depending on where you stand. ICAAN, the body who regulates the domain names (such as our name, techgeek.com.au), has approved the creation of a new top-level domain name .xxx.
Welcome to the Morning Briefing for Tuesday 21 December, where we highlight the tech stories from across the web and what we are watching here at TECHGEEK.com.au.
Here’s what we are watching:
Okay, we get it. We fail at comedy. Don’t get your knickers in a twist. We discuss the Wikileaks saga, the fact that Porn aims to be the next Google in stealing your private data and that Apple tries to push a dead social network with a dead celebrity.
Turns out, to create a scandal, we don’t need to have a sexual relationship. However, we get a little bit sidetrack with the NBN to talk about that story. Yes, the NBN. We ranted about the NBN – that’s a first. We also talk about a new FaceTime video sex service and is Android getting a new gaming platform for Android?
Porn, get ready for your own industry-specific top-level domain (TLD) name.
ICANN has today announced that it has approved the controversial .xxx domain, which will be specifically used to host sites that are within the porn industry; just like .aero is for the air-travel business and .org is for organisations.
ICANN, the organisation that oversees all domain names and registrations – including the familiar dot-com – is expected to give the go ahead for the controversial .xxx top-level domain (TLD) for websites containing pornography.

I bet you, as readers on TECHGEEK.com.au, that you wish that you want to experience the magic of Android – a phone where you can run almost any application that you want, especially those “porn apps” that the CEO of Apple said that you aren’t going to get on the iPhone (unless you use Safari, almost any restriction is bypassed with Safari).
NEWS IN BRIEF: A New Zealand poll conducted by UMR Research found that watching porn online while married is “morally acceptable” than downloading copyrighted material. Asking 1000 New Zealanders, 21 percent of the respondents believed that it was acceptable for a married person to watch porn without telling their spouse (and it has been made easier to hide it because of new private browsing modes on all of the browsers).
Pornography downloads is said to be straining the US$74 billion, next generation wireless network in Japan, as many users opt to download their pornography on their mobiles, instead of using their PCs, because many have unlimited download caps.
Chinese Police have said that they have arrested 28 people on its expanding crackdown on internet pornography and other content that has been deemed as “vulgar”; with authorities vowing that there would be no “flash in the pan” during the crackdown.
