Top 5 Games for Christmas (Part Two)

We covered the consoles in part one, but what about the portables? So here is the second part of our list of games you should consider when buying a game for the Nintendo DS or the PlayStation Portable for that special person, family member or co-worker.

Don’t forget, you have less than a week to get these games! So you probably should start going in stores to get them to take advantage of last minute sales!

Again, these are not in order of preference – just to appease the fanboys.

NPD: Video games, consoles sales fall in April

Video games and consoles sales in the US have fallen due to the slowing economy, few “blockbuster” releases and a tough comparison with a year-ago period that featured several hits, according to a report released by the NPD Group on Thursday.

Sales for the Nintendo Wii fell 52 percent from a year ago, selling only 340,000 units; the PlayStation 3 sales dropped by a third, to only 127,000 units; and the Xbox 360 sales were also down, to 175,000 units during the month. For portables, the PlayStation Portable sold 116,000 units. What about the PlayStation 2? It still outsells the PlayStation 3 with 172,000 units.

PSP Firmware 5.01 to fix Memory Stick problems

So, Sony has admitted that they screwed up in Firmware 5.00 for the PlayStation Portable. Though they included the PlayStation Store and direct downloads, there happens to be a glitch when people using high-capacity Memory Sticks (mainly the 8GB or 16GB cards) were being reported as being full, when they were really lots and lots of free space in them.

Rumour Mill : New PSP firmware to add Wi-Fi store, screen captures?

According to this French source (translation) after being told by an unnamed French developer, the latest firmware of Sony’s PlayStation Portable (Version 5.00) will include direct access to the PlayStation Store, which was promised last month for Japanese gamers, an improved RSS reader with text file support and a screen capture mode that allows you to take screenshots during a game.
