Sony Australia has announced that the PS3 “bonus” bundle, which was announced in E3, will end in August 31. The pack cost the same as the original 60GB PS3, but has two controllers and two games. It is unknown what will happen to the 60GB version after the US will no longer have it in production, as well what will happen after the bundle ends.
Sony has said that the price cut will only effect North America only, and not anywhere else. This has been a blow to all European and Aussie gamers; where in Australia, they pay at AU$999 for the 60GB version. Both markets do not stock the 20GB version. As well, another blow comes from the fact that the 80GB version will not be coming to Europe and Australia.
The Church of England has accused Sony for using an English Cathedral as a backdrop to a violent video game and said it must be removed from shelves. They also say that Sony didn’t ask permission to use the Manchester Cathedral in the game and has demanded an apology. The game in question is the “Resistance : Fall of Man” for the PS3, where it shows a virtual shoot out with hundreds of people killed inside the cathedral

The Folding@Home project, which Sony signed up in March, has proven its self as it compiled a year’s worth of data in one month. More than 250,000 users have signed up. Folding@Home uses the idle PS3 to simulate how proteins assume roles in living tissues. At average, they have managed to reach a top speed of 400 teraflops; at its busiest, it can reach 700 teraflops. Comparing it to the no.1 supercomputer, BlueGene L has a top speed of 280.6 teraflops.
On June 19; the creator, Ken Kutaragi, will retire from Sony’s Computer Entertainment. He has “been considering this decision for some time.”

Sony has announced a video chat add-on for their expensive PS3. Called the ‘Playstation Eye,’ it combines both a microphone and a webcam that can be plugged in from a USB slot. It has a 120 frame rate per second with 320 x 240 pixel resolution, not exactly high definition; but it does come with gaming specific features like a two zoom features. The microphone is said to replace the need of handsets and is to come with speech recognition and noise canceling technologies.
Yes… North America is no longer getting the cheaper version of the PS3 because the 60GB is popular… and the only one that is in Australia. Great, that pushes the idea of a cheaper PS3… I hope you fall [down to your knees and give us the 20GB version].
