Apple sues Motorola over multitouch patents

Joining the list of companies Apple is suing, Motorola now faces the raft of Steve Jobs after the company has filed two separate lawsuits claiming that Motorola has infringed on its patent on multitouch – and no surprise, the devices claimed are all using the Android platform.

Gartner: Nokia, Symbian dominate; Apple, Android and RIM gain

While 2009 might not be a year to remember when consumer demand was very low – before increasing at the latter end of the year – Symbian still dominates the smartphone market, according to Gartner. However, it might need to do some more to increase its market share after it dipped from 52.4 percent in 2008 to 46.9 percent in 2009, despite an increase of units sold.

Motorola to launch two new Android phones?

CES 2010 RUMOUR MILL: Got to love the rumours before CES 2010. Motorola may be planning to bring out two new phones during the conference, according to one analyst from Global Equities Research. Both phones are said to be running Android, with one having an OLED screen and a physical keyboard, and that will be heading over to AT&T. The other phone will also have an OLED screen, but have a soft keyboard and will go to Verizon – following on the success of its Droid phone.

Motorola has brought out a new touchscreen phone, being described as a “new, intuitive, customizable and vibrant touch tablet” with 3G support. Called the MOTOSURF A3100, its home page is just a restyled front-page being overlaid on top of Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
