Rumour: N-Series to drop Symbian for Maemo

RUMOUR MILL: Nokia might be ditching the recently open-sourced Symbian OS to its new Linux-based Maemo OS for all of its future N-Series phones, the high end and feature-packed phones in its entire phone line-up; according to one little slip up by its marketing team at an official meet-up for the N900. Turns out, this might be a smart move by the Finnish mobile maker, as the current OS, Symbian S60 5th Edition, pretty much is crap in terms of user interface when compared to the Maemo.

Samsung releases new OS named Bada

Ignoring the fact that the world has other alternatives like the BlackBerry OS, Apple iPhone OS, Google Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian OS, Palm WebOS and even Linux; Samsung has announced today that it will be launching its own mobile operating system for its phones. The name apparently means ocean in Korean, and will be open to a variety of platforms. The SDK won’t be released until a London launch event; and phones are expected to come out within Q2 of 2010.

Pixi to launch on October 20?

RUMOUR MILL: Looks like the Palm Pixi, the new smartphone that will have its webOS platform, is set to be released on October 20, according to the Boy Genius Report. Though the person who gave the information to BGR is new to them, they did say that Best Buy and Sprint stores will be carrying the phone.

LG goes with Pop for new touch screen phone

LG has brought out its new touch screen phone, and it looks pretty damn good. The LG GD510, also known as the “Pop”, has a 3-inch screen will feature a 3 megapixel camera and 8 gigabytes of internal memory. In its press release, it boasts about its simplicity by removing “unnecessary features”. However, while we do not know if this will have Wi-Fi or 3G, because LG has not released any tech specifications, we do know it will run on the GSM network and will feature Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP – just not from LG, but from their Bluetooth SIG entry.

NOKIA WORLD: Despite already being leaked to the public beforehand, Nokia has given the official seal of approval to the news that it will be selling the Nokia N97 mini, the companion to the its N97 phone. The phone is touted as being the stylish and smaller version of its parent.

Nokia brings out more Comes With Music phones with X6 and X3

NOKIA WORLD: Nokia has announced that it will be bringing out two new phones that will join its music portfolio of phones, the X6 and the X3.

The X6 will feature a 3.2 inch touchscreen that has been optimised for 16:9 widescreen viewing with a massive 32 gigabytes of on-board memory, a 5 megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss optical lens and dual LED flash, TV-out support and access to its Ovi and Music stores. It will have Bluetooth, AGPS and WLAN, along with HSDPA and EDGE network support. It is said to have up to 8 hours of talk time under a GSM network (5 hours with 3G on), and can play music for up to 35 hours.
