Is the MacBook Air going to get an upgrade soon?
Here’s a double whammy of Apple rumours to drool over. A report is claiming that the MacBook Air could have another redesign in the first-half of the year to compete with the new “ultrabooks”; while another is claiming that the iPhone could have a larger, 4-inch screen.
Two separate reports from Taiwanese publication Digitimes is reporting that Apple could be overhauling all of its product lines in 2012 – including the iPhone, iMac, iPad and MacBook Air lines. These are coming from, as usual, ‘anonymous sources within’.
The MacBook Air has been updated as part of the wider store refresh, and now comes with some updated specifications, Thunderbolt support and with a new low price that makes it now the entry-level notebook for its MacBook line.
Apple is now selling the latest edition of the Mac OS X – version 10.7, or dubbed “Lion” – on its App Store. However, at the same time, Apple has quietly killed off the polycarbonate MacBook from its lineup, making the MacBook Air the cheapest MacBook sold by Apple.
Samsung has just finished their press conference, and now we have some more products to get to. But when you thought the laptop was dead, Samsung brought out its thinnest and lightest laptop it has ever produced. Called the 9 Series, it features a 13.3-inch laptop, weighs less than 3lbs and it 0.64-inches thin.
Two years in the making, the new MacBook Air just announced includes some cool new hardware and features, as well as coming in 13.3″ and 11.6″ variations.
It features some features seen on the iPad, which Apple called ‘the iPad and Mac hooking up’.
IN BRIEF: At its WWDC conference, Apple has announced a pricing change to its MacBook Air laptop. The thin notebook will now have a new entry-level pricetag of US$1,499 for a 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a 120GB hard drive and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics; and its 128SSD model with a 2.13 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and same graphics card will now cost US$1,799.
A team of security researchers have won themselves $10,000 for hacking into the MacBook Air in under two minutes by exploiting a Safari vulnerability.
This was done at the CanSecWest conference where there is a competition for hacking into the MacBook Air, Vista and Ubuntu. IDG News Service is reporting that on the first day, no one managed to execute any code as it was limited to over-the-network techniques on the OS itself.
