iPhone 3G sells at Wal-Mart on Sunday; $99 iPhone lives on – at AT&T

After rumours started flying that Wal-Mart will sell the iPhone in the US for just US$99, and then turned into nothing since it wasn’t true; AT&T is selling the iPhone 3G 8G for $99 – on a 2-year contract. Also, if you get it now before the end of the year, you can get an extra $50 off the price! That is pretty cheap. It should be noted that this is a refurbished iPhone.

Case maker publishes iPhone nano protector – could there be iPhone nano after all?

RUMOUR MILL : XSKN, a third-party case maker, has rekindled rumours of an iPhone nano and has started taking orders for a protective case holder for the rumoured gadget, even though there has been no confirmation from Apple – as expected since its nearly time for the all important, and final year, for the Apple keynote at Macworld at San Francisco.

iPhone Dev team unlocks iPhone 3G

The iPhone Dev Team have announced that they have managed to unlock the iPhone 3G, a task that was seem to be impossible by many, and this is soon going to be packaged in a new application similar to QuickPwn. Codenamed “yellowsn0w”, the release date will be available to all on New Year’s Eve 2008. As well, you will need to have an iPhone 3G with the baseband firmware 2.11.07 or earlier.

Google reveals top searches of 2008 – “Obama” takes Google’s top fastest rising crown (in the US)

Following a similar move made by Yahoo, Google has announced that results of its “Fastest Rising” and top search queries from its Zeitgeist; with results from worldwide, the United States and 34 other countries, including New Zealand, United Kingdom and Australia (and if you’re scared about your privacy, don’t worry, Google says that no personal data was used).

Who said that bacon is just for eating? You can now have a bacon iPhone sleeve for just 25 Euros, including VAT, but without the shipping charges. Design by Antje, she claims that each sleeve is not the same, and everyone will have a different bacon motif. I should also tell you that it is not really bacon, but felt – but you should already know that.

iPhone bug could cause problems?

Apple could have a serious security threat on its current firmware for the iPhone, and possibly the iPod touch (since they basically share the same OS), if a report from MacNN is true. According to their report, a group of iPhone developers have identify a bug that could lead it granting access to third party code.

iPhone subsidiary costs Optus $44 million

Optus has spent $44 million on subsidising the iPhone to make it cheaper, according to its parent company Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), during the first quarter when the iPhone was released. However, its not all bad news for Optus – 55 percent of the iPhones were sold as Optus as the carrier.

Rumour Mill : New iPhone firmware has podcast downloads

AppleInsider is reporting that a leak in the new iPhone 2.2 firmware will see a podcast download function in bulit with the phone, instead of requiring to use iTunes on your main computer. The function is said to use Wi-Fi to download the latest episodes of podcasts by pressing a “Get More Episodes” link. However, it is unknown if you will be able to subscribe to a show as well.
