Twitter to buy Tweetie – makes it free

Twitter has made its first steps in getting an official application on the iPhone by acquiring Tweetie from Atebits, one of the popular Twitter applications for the iPhone, and will be renaming it “Twitter for the iPhone”. However, what’s even better news is that it will ditch the price of US$2.99 and make it free.

Just when you thought Google could get any more creepy, just look at this video from the TV Show “Hungry Beast” showing in Australia on the ABC Television network. Maybe you should think twice about pushing that signup button to gMail or pushing that “Sign up to latitude” on your iPhone. I know I haven’t!

It’s official – Apple’s online, world-famous App Store has had one billion downloads in just nine months – an achievement that has the tech industry buzzing (mostly over who will win / has won). The 1,000,000,000th app was download at approximately 1.52pm PDT (6.52am AEST), closing the two-week promotion.

Antivirus app comes to the iPhone

Paris-based security firm Intego has released the very first antivirus software for the iPhone. However, it does not run on the phone itself, but on a user’s Mac.

The software, Virus Barrier X5 10.5.3, would be able to scan the iPhone for viruses by copying the files to the Mac for a security check, once the user has plugged in the cable and is connected to the Mac itself. The company claims that since Apple has opened it its SDK, users would be at risk of installing apps that would harm the devices, or even take control of them.
