LG has today announced a brand new update to the Optimus G in Korea. Called the Optimus G Pro, the new smartphone features a 5.5-inch IPS display with a pixel density of 400ppi (well, that’s according to them), and runs on the brand new Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset.
LG has confirmed what we basically now know exist – the Nexus 4. The new smartphone, that becomes Google’s next flagship device for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean (The Samsung-produced Galaxy Nexus was for Ice Cream Sandwich), will be sold next month in selected markets. And despite being scarred by the Optimus-line of smartphones, reading the hardware specifications, it does look pretty good.
Ahead of a Google Android event next week, LG has basically leaked out that it will be making the next Nexus device. Dubbed the Nexus 4, the LG Support website in Australia and in the UK has revealed that it will come out in 8GB and 16GB capacity configurations, among other information.
The Motorola RAZR M and RAZR HD have been confirmed to be exclusive devices to Telstra, both running on its new 4G network; with the RAZR HD already in stores while the RAZR M will be out in November.
HTC has revealed the Desire X, a brand new Android phone that promises to deliver a state-of-the-art camera, a dual-core Snapdragon S4 1GHz processor, Beats Audio support and a 4-inch display, all with an affordable price of $299 prepaid.
The Xperia go is coming to Australia, and is heading to Optus. The phone, which claims to be scratch resistant and somewhat waterproof, features a 3.5-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera and will not at launch feature Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Instead, it will use Gingerbread, or Android 2.3.
Motorola’s chance to announce something and try and take away the carpet from Nokia’s own press conference on September 5 appears to be blown away. Someone on YouTube called revowii has posted video tutorials of a phone that is speculated to be the DROID RAZR HD – or known officially as the Motorola XT926.
We now know officially that Google’s next Android version is Jelly Bean. Why? Well, Google has a history of making statues for major Android releases – the one on the left hand corner is for Ice Cream Sandwich, and the one behind was for Honeycomb. Now, we have a robot with Jelly Beans – hence, now we can call it.
LG smartphones are about to get a brand new user interface, with the Korean phone manufacturer pushing a new update on its custom UI – the aptly titled LG Optimus UI. Now hitting version 3.0, it brings several features that essentially play catch-up with its rivals own custom interfaces – HTC’s Sense and Samsung’s TouchWiz.

RUMOUR MILL: By Thanksgiving, we could see five new ‘Nexus’ smartphones and tablets – the title given to Android’s flagship phone for a particular version – being sold directly to consumers through Google, as opposed to the traditional carriers. Well, that’s if a report by the Wall Street Journal is true.

Also announced by Motorola before CES was the MOTOLUXE, a phone that appears to also target the developing markets except with some premium features. The phone has a sleek design, runs on Gingerbread and has an 8-megapixel camera, something you don’t expect for a phone targeting such markets.
The Motorola DEFY is about to get a lower-priced cousin with Motorola announcing before CES 2012 the Motorola DEFY MINI. Featuring the same water-resistant, dust-proof and scratch-proof (thanks to a Gorilla Glass screen) claim, it features lower specs to possibly attract emerging markets.
Google appears to have resolved the issues of its fragmentation with the announcement that it will push its really sexy Ice Cream Sandwich theme – “Holo” – on all phones that have been approved to carry the Android Market. In other words, any major label phone will have to have Holo.
