Australia listed as “under surveillance” in new Internet Enemies list after Finkelstein report

Reporters Without Borders have released their list of countries that they consider to be “Internet Enemies” as part of its World Day Against Cyber-Censorship on March 12. However, while some countries – like China – are expected to be on the list; France and Australia have made the list under “Countries under Surveillance”.

France Telecom confirms Apple tablet? [Updated]

Turns out, the French aren’t that really good in keeping a secret after all. France Telecom executive Stéphane Richards has revealed that France Telecom, which runs the Orange network in the country and is one of the carriers in France to sell the iPhone, will sell the Apple tablet – confirming its existence, according to a video posted on NowhereElse.fr.

France becomes first country to use Dolby Digital Plus in HD TV

Four of France’s terrestrial broadcasters have announced that they will be using Dolby’s new Digital Plus and Dolby Digital on their new high-def channels. In fact, France will be the first country that will be using the new audio technology. The channels will include TF1 HD, France 2 HD, ARTE HD, Canal + HD and M6 HD. All these channels also form the new HD service from Television Numerique Terrestre.

France to crack down on sites promoting anorexia

French politicians have called for stiff penalties, including three years in jail, for fines against “pro-anorexia” sites and publications that encourage girls and young women to stave themselves.

“Giving young girls advice about how to lie to their doctors, telling them what kinds of food are easiest to vomit, encouraging them to torture themselves whenever they take any kind of food is not part of liberty of expression,” Roselyne Bachelot, France’s Health Minister, said to the French parliament.
