Facebook has brought in a couple of new changes today, including an announcement of a brand new redesign to the front page that users see when they log-in. The new design will allow users to easily publish, follow their friends’ stream and now will allow them to filter by friends, groups and by application.

Facebook is a social networking website based in Palo Alto, California. Founded by Mark Zuckerburg, it was previously a social network limited to university students before allowing anyone over the age of 13. The website currently has 300 million active users worldwide, and has overtaken News Corp-owned MySpace as the most used social network by worldwide monthly active users, according to a Compete.com study.
Facebook reverts to previous Terms of Use as users revolt
Users on social networking Facebook have finally pressured the company to revert the changes from its Terms of Use. The company, which previously polled users on the new changes, saw only 6 percent of total voters supporting the new change, while 56 percent were opposing to the new change.
AP : Zuckerburg paid $100 million settlement to ConnectU founders
The AFP has revealed that Facebook paid US$65 million (or $99.04 million in Australian Dollars) to settle a lawsuit from ConnectU after they claimed that its founder and former college roommate, Mark Zuckerberg, stole their idea for the website.
CES 2009 : Windows Live Essentials gets released, new partnerships with Dell, Facebook & Verizon
CES 2009 KEYNOTE : Microsoft has announced three brand new things for the Windows Live platform, which Steve Ballmer said it was an “essential companion” to the PC.
First it announced that it will bring out the final version of the new Windows Live Essentials, which features Windows Live Messenger, Writer, Mail and Photo Gallery. This new version will be compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Facebook no longer friends with Power.com, sues them
Facebook has decided to sue Power.com, a Brazilian start-up that combines a number of social networks into one portal; for copyright and trademark infringement under US and California law, unlawful competition and violations on several laws, including the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the CAN-SPAM Act.
Hasbro drops Scrabulous lawsuit – AP
Hasbro has decided to drop a lawsuit against the makers of Scrabulous, a popular online version of Scrabble, on Friday, according to documents filed in the US District Court in New York seen by the Associated Press. The documents, however, do not cite a reason on Hasbro’s decision to drop the case.
Google reveals top searches of 2008 – “Obama” takes Google’s top fastest rising crown (in the US)
Following a similar move made by Yahoo, Google has announced that results of its “Fastest Rising” and top search queries from its Zeitgeist; with results from worldwide, the United States and 34 other countries, including New Zealand, United Kingdom and Australia (and if you’re scared about your privacy, don’t worry, Google says that no personal data was used).
North Carolina teachers dismissed sack over Facebook comments, one faces dismissal
A North Carolina teacher, who has not been named, is facing dismissal; while four other teachers at the same school all received discipline action after all five were caught posting comments about students. While the four who received discipline action’s comments were described as a “poor judgement and bad taste” by the district spokeswoman Nora Carr, the teacher who is facing dismissal is noted to have made derogatory comments about the students.
Three to launch new social phone – integrates Facebook, Live Messenger & Skype
3 Australia will be releasing another phone to Australia that will integrate Skype, but will also include integration with popular IM Windows Live Messenger and social network Facebook in attempt to create a more social-friendly phone. Called the INQ1 – pronounced as “ink one”, the phone is expected to be around by Christmas.
3AW misses news bulletin for Facebook
Last Sunday at 4PM, the Australian radio station 3AW missed the “on-the-dot” news bulletin because the news reader was too busy on the computer.
The news theme was broadcast but a series of advertisements followed it. According to NEWS.com.au, the producer ran to the studio to see that the news reader was on the computer.
Facebook to set up office in Australia
Australian IT is reporting that social networking site Facebook is looking for at least four people, including a head of sales, to be based in Sydney to form an Australian-based advertising team for the site, joining Canada and Sweden as places that the social network wants to expand into.

Ping.FM will allow you to post the same message on your friends over at Twitter, Jaiku, Facebook, MySpace, and many other services. While it does not say anything to cure that crippling addiction to social networking – well for me at least – it is a very good Web 2.0 service.
Facebook v StudiVZ : Facebook tried buying it before suing
An International Herald Tribune article has said that before Facebook sued German social networking site, which actually looks like Facebook, StudiVZ; it actually tried to buy them.
According to Silicon Alley Insider, StudiVZ has 10 times more traffic than Facebook has in Germany, so it would make sense they would buy it – maybe to avoid a costly legal proceeding. Just one problem – the owners wanted €85 million for it, or $134 million – the same amount that it had paid for StudiVZ.
Facebook & MySpace lagging in Japan – still
According to comScore’s data which was released today; both MySpace and Facebook – the two most popular social networking sites in the US – are lagging in Japan by another social network, Mixi.jp.
Facebook to get redesign on Monday
Facebook is set to get a new look to reflect on how its members (like us) communicate with each other. The new design, which will be unveiled to the public on Monday, will see an expanded Wall – where everyone can leave comments and photos, which will include the user’s Mini-Feed.
