2010. What a year to end a decade. From political uncertainty in the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom, the leaking of important US documents – from Afghanistan to diplomatic cables – and even a possible upheaval of our classification system to finally allow a R18+ rating in Australia, bringing it in line with other western nations.
The OXX Digital Pocket, however, is unlike most digital radios – it’s slim and small. However, does size make all the difference in performance, quality and even picking up the signals? Does it deserve to be in that Christmas stocking? As well, is it worth getting digital radio, despite it still being a niche?
Since we love our fellow readers, we have decided to give out another product, this time from our friends from OXX Digital. This is the OXX Digital Pocket DAB+ Radio, a portable digital radio device, meaning that you can listen to all your favourite digital radio stations on the go.
While digital radios are still scarce, more DAB+ radios are coming – but mainly from and for Europe as it has a bigger market there. This product is the Tangent DAB 2go, and is another table-top DAB+ radio receiver. However, it may not look stylish because its PR noted that the design is inspired by the 50s – and for those who are looking at it like it was familiar, it also notes that the body is basically the same as its other product Uno 2go. Don’t worry Europe, it will be compatible with your DAB signals.
Digital Radio was introduced in July this year, and while the receivers may still be expensive, some are getting cheaper. Take the Pure One Mini Digital Radio being sold for $20 cheaper over at Dick Smith Electronics. Granted, why do we need this if its still not mainstream? Well, the advantages include better sound, more stations and better quality for those AM stations that keep getting interference.
With digital radio already launched in Australia (see our previous guide), we have been given a digital radio box by OXX Digital to review. Known as the Classic DAB+, this Scandinavian maker has found an Australian distributor to find a place for this device; and it not only does digital radio, but also FM, internet radio and has an AUX jack. But, is it worth to spend $299 for the device?
Recently promoting the new broadcasting standard with “Radio United”, digital radio has started in Australia, with the major cities of Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide already having stations that are broadcasting in digital. But with 40 different stations switching over to the digital platform, what does this mean for you, the listener?
Digital Radio will be rolled out across the nation starting next year, after long-running tests were held around the country that allowed listeners to rewind and pause live coverage and introduce new elements like images and song information.
