A day later… a new blog?

By Terence Huynh on April 3rd, 2008 No Comments

We are launching a new blog, filled with anything technological or anything we like. This blog is called The Journal. Gadgets, News that won’t be featured here and opinions will mainly take up some of the blog.

It will be written by the TECHGEEK team here, but we will be getting some writers that will write for The Journal exclusively. It will also feature content from many other blogs, under permission from the author, Creative Commons licensed or from our blogs.

The Journal already has some content, with more on the way.

You can find it at http://journal.techgeek.com.au.

Welcome to TECHGEEK.com.au

By Terence Huynh on April 1st, 2008 1 Comment

Hello there,

If you have been wondering what happened and why have you been redirected to this new site, well this is our new home. TECHGEEEK.com.au should be much better than techgeek.reawaken.info.

If you can bother remembering this address, then it should redirect you to TECHGEEK.com.au. We are still working out the kinks out of this new design as this is a public environment and not in the server where this got designed.

As well, if you may have noticed that TECHGEEK Studios is down; we are fixing up a variation of the theme and bringing it back soon. It will still have all the TECHGEEK Podcast episodes and we will return doing the podcast very soon.

And I should now note that this is NOT AN APRIL FOOLS JOKE!

Ironically, this is actually the first year celebration too. Even though are archives go to March, we actually started in April; though March was my own TECHGEEK before everything happened.

As well, writers will have noticed a new admin interface; well this is from our updated WordPress version 2.5, where they have radically redesigned it. Stewart hates it, though.

So enjoy and if you do have any problems with the design, like graphics not loading or some things are out of place, please do comment below.

Why have we been away for the past few days?

By Terence Huynh on March 28th, 2008 No Comments

As you can see, we have been not doing the usual short excerpt for the stories lately. It’s not because I’m tired but we have been working very hard because TECH.GEEK is getting a redesign and a revamp. No longer we have to be stuck in the old and tired “news” layout, but we are switching to what we are and always have been – a blog.

As well, due to this; the TECH.GEEK Podcast is in extended break mode. This is because many of us are working in the site. You will still have the news posted by me – but sometime after the revamp.

The revamp, unlike October’s revamp, will take place somewhere next week. So please don’t call us that the site is down. We are working on the site. This will take place somewhere between 10:00PM our time, as we don’t tire ourselves.

The new revamp will also see ‘The Journal’ being its own separate blog – meaning that all of our staff can write in it. From books, weird things, gadgets and online videos – it is the place to find what is what on the web. It will also be the place where most of our opinions will be and some others taken from their sites.

Also, TECH.GEEK Studios is taking the new design too.

We are also, in TECH.GEEK Studios, launching a couple of new shows – either on the YouTube account or on our Blip.TV accounts (we have two – one for us and one for Stewart). So if you have any technology-related questions, we want them and we will answer them on the show. We will have a online experience where you can give us your questions via the comments section here, e-mail, IM, Skype or video response.

So there, wish us luck for the redesign.

digsby Invites…?

By Terence Huynh on February 24th, 2008 No Comments

Hey all,

TECH.GEEK has now gotten its hands on digsby, the popular and brand new invite-only multi-IM client that allows you to have updates from MySpace and facebook, and will review it sometime soon, most likely Monday as it is a 24 hour review.

Anyway, TECH.GEEK has managed to secure 500 invites, well 499 invites since I used one to do the review. That is still a lot. So get cracking. The code is “techgeek“.

You can sign up at http://digsby.com.

Enjoy!

The introduction of a brand new year

By Terence Huynh on February 15th, 2008 No Comments

TECH.GEEK is announcing a change in how the site is written and managed.

Managing the Site
The site has received many hacks in its past and now will see the removal of the suspects from their Editor positions into Author positions. Further action will be taken, and many suggestions will be taken. The suspects have been identified as Jay Day and Stewart Wilson, both who have confessed into hacking the server where the site is held before.

Jay Day and Stewart Wilson have been suspects for a long time, as their knowledge of PHP and MySQL are better than mine, which is none. Stewart Wilson is on leave until March/April. If attacks don’t happen in the four-five weeks, I may consider placing their accounts as Editors.

Writing
TECH.GEEK wishes to announce that we have some addition to the team. Sean Hyatt will be writing for TECH.GEEK and will also start writing the now-restarted category of Tips, Tricks & Hacks. He was added yesterday.

Also, another addition is Luke Chandler, coming from all the way from SRS NZ (a.k.a LeoNet). You may have heard him from our TECH.GEEK Podcast. We don’t know what he will be writing, but it is most likely going to be all subjects.

Their RSS and Atom feeds will be up soon in our RSS pages, and also some brand new tag RSS feeds too.

reawakennetworks on Netvibes
The reawakennetworks has now a universe on Netvibes under my name. The universe is to give people access to the latest news from alfahosts to XC Hosting, with TECH.GEEK, the blog network and many other members in between.

If it becomes popular, it may catch on.

So that’s about it on TECH.GEEK’s plans for 2008. It only took us about a few days to figure what we wanted to do.

Head Editor of TECH.GEEK.

New Changes

By Terence Huynh on January 12th, 2008 No Comments

Users who are familiar with the site have noticed that we have a bit more information on the site. Yes, we have.

We have now put up our entire archive from March 2007 to November 2007 on this site. All of our archives have been rearranged to the new formats. However, some posts won’t have any tags.

So enjoy the site. We are soon going to put a calendar on the archives and also having a listing of categories on the front page. As well, more advertising on the archive pages. Sorry if you don’t like it.

If you haven’t clicked on the RSS link, you should now. The link will now showcase the feeds on our site. Now you can have the choice of feeds for each category, tag or by your favourite author. Now that’s choice.

So enjoy the new TECH.GEEK.

Experiencing a hacking

By Terence Huynh on December 11th, 2007 No Comments

If you have been to our site just a few hours ago, we just had a major hacking problem where I couldn’t log in and take control over what happened. Thankfully, our Security and Internet editor Jay Day managed to restore access and we now have no problems what so ever.

So thank you so much for your patience, we are conducting a full investigation on the matter. We hope to bring full content of the latest technology news by 12pm today!

Resurrecting Us

By Terence Huynh on November 3rd, 2007 No Comments

We are back from the dead…

As you can see, we have a new design… there are also some flaws. Our design team over at antinomie are working hard to get some of these flaws fixed, and you can expect a full version by Melbourne Cup day.

Also, news updating won’t begin until after Melbourne Cup day (or during… don’t know). As well, we have plans to bring the archives back into the site.

Have fun,

Terence Huyn

Twitter friends…?

By Terence Huynh on September 24th, 2007 No Comments

Today, we would like to announce that our feed is now available in Twitter. Twitter is a famous Web 2.0 site that allows you to tell your friends what you are up to via the web or mobile.

Our feed is published thanks to twitterfeed, which allows you (and us) to publish our feeds in our network.

Expect this to all of other properties on the reawakennetworks, as we kind of like it. As well, the design kind of looks like the site. The avatar is actually our assign icon from the network too. Add us as one of your friends to get updates every 30 minutes…

Dark Once Again…

By Terence Huynh on September 15th, 2007 No Comments

Hey Everyone,

We here at tech.geek (now TECH.GEEK, but it now can be both ways or a mixture…) is happy to announce a brand new theme. This new theme comes is our creation. Using FamFamFam Icons and some of our own, this theme is called ‘Blue is Darkness’. Funky… or not.

As well, we are going to start using our real names, unless mentioned. Yes, Now you can call me by my real name, not techgeek. That was getting old.

Also, we would like to extend the visitors that just came from ePirate.net. Welcome to our blog.

Plus, regular readers… we are so sorry for the slowness in updates… we are just looking for some new writers, and other things (like me making this theme).

Anyway, we are back in full swing… welcome to TECH.GEEK (again)!!!!
