Microsoft has finally pushed out the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, as promised, from a Windows 8 event at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.
Not only is this version improved from the Developer Preview, with 100 000 changes, but it also includes plenty of Metro applications not seen in the previous Preview, such as Mail, Music, Calendar, Messaging, Video and a Marketplace to get more apps.

Canonical has announced another big step for Ubuntu, with the unveiling of Ubuntu for Android. Now, it’s not actually running on your small screen, but instead plugs into a regular computer screen. It’s a full desktop version of Ubuntu running on ARM and it’s quite impressive to see. Data and settings are synced between your phone and the Ubuntu install, with things such as SMS’s appearing in the Messaging application. You can make calls and see your phones contacts too.

Just when you thought Windows XP was dead, Microsoft has yet again extended its support life cycle policies to 8 April 2014 for XP. Meanwhile, Vista’s support has been extended to 11 April 2017 and Windows 7 will stop being supported in 7-8 years, which is 14 January 2020.

Microsoft has finally detailed the release date and some more details for the Windows 8 ‘Consumer Preview’, also known as a public beta.
The launch will come from Mobile World Congress on February 29, US time, from between 3PM and 5PM CET, which is around 3AM AEST on March 1. Being at a mobile conference, the launch could include demos on tablets or possibly even a look at Windows Phone 8.

Apple has finally pulled the delta update for Mac OS X 10.7.3, a release that was supposed to fix bugs and other problems but instead caused major problems to some users, such as the CUI errors and other application issues. Instead of downloading the smaller delta update, users are now made to download the combined update, meaning a bigger download of 1.34GB, almost double the original update’s size of 730.6MB

In an official blog post, Canonical, the owner of Ubuntu, has hinted at some interesting surprisings in store for their CES keynote. The mini CES announcement states that their keynote will have “the latest in Desktop, Cloud and demonstrations on Ubuntu One, plus an exclusive Ubuntu concept design which will be announced during the show.”
