Minecraft Pocket Edition coming to Android this week, iOS “eventually”

Want to play Minecraft on your phone, but don’t own an Xperia Play? Well, if you own an Android phone you’re in luck! This week on Friday 30th (AEST), Minecraft will be available for any Android device. The game will, like all mobile games, use on screen touch controls, unlike the physical controls of the Xperia Play, and presumably be available for the same price of $6.54.

PlayStation

Original story: This is not a drill. The PlayStation Network, which was sporadically going offline and online last night, is now completely down.

Just like last time, Sony is expecting the gaming network to be back in two hours. But remember, last time they said a few days it turned into a month.

Gamescom 2011: 24″ PlayStation-branded 3DTV coming to Australia

Sony has today also announced that the PlayStation-branded 24″ 3DTV, announced for the US at E3 2011, will be coming to Australia “later this year”.

One of the highlights feature-wise is SimulView. This allows two players to have full-screen multiplayer games, removing the need to split the screen. It’s quite interesting technology, although unfortunately Sony has patented it, meaning the idea probably won’t become common in any other brands of TV’s. PlayStation 3 games will need to be patched to support the feature, so hopefully updates come thick-and-fast.

Gamescom 2011: Budget PSP coming for $139.95, sans Wi-Fi

Just in case the first four PSP SKU’s didn’t meet your needs, Sony has announced a new, budget PSP model that is exclusive to Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The PSP E1000 is fully compatible with every PSP game and will be coming for a tasty $139.95. But the budget price comes with it’s disadvantages. The biggest change with this SKU is the lack of a Wi-Fi connection. This means that the PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store and Ad-Hoc gaming will be 100% gone in this model. We’re guessing you will still be able to use the Media Go! PC software to transfer games to the new PSP and it fully supports UMD’s. But it’s still a little disappointing that Sony removed Wi-Fi to decrease the price.

During Sony’s conference at the annual Gamecom conference in Germany, a PlayStation 3 price-drop has been announced.

From August 22 the 160GB PS3 will be available for $349.95 and the 320GB SKU will be available for a lovely $449.95. The price-cut isn’t as big as some may have hoped, but it is definately a welcome bonus for anyone thinking of buying or upgrading their PS3.

PREVIEW: Mass Effect 3 will be “enthralling”

Mass Effect 3, although delayed to March 2012, will arrive two years after the release of its predecessor. And of course, expectations are high for the final instalment of the series. The delay can be seen as a godsend to improve faults, or a way to piss off fans. And while you’ll have to wait longer, here’s a little preview what you can expect, and what we hope to be in the game.

Battlefield 3 will require EA Origin no matter how you buy it

EA will be enforcing the use of their new, Steam-like service, Origin, in the PC version of their upcoming Call Of Duty competitor, Battlefield 3.

If you don’t already know (and I wouldn’t blame you), Origin is Electronic Arts brand new digital distribution platform that allows the purchasing and downloading of PC games and downloadable content. It needs a client and is very much like Steam, except for the fact that it’s currently only filled with EA games. It has Facebook, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network integration but they’re all tied together with an EA (or Origin) account.
