Whenever Firefox releases a major update to their browser, Microsoft sends them a lovely cake. It’s a funny and positive tradition and Firefox 5 is no exception to it.

Mozilla’s VP of Engineering just tweeted a picture of their latest cake, which is a little smaller than they’re used to, probably because Firefox 5 is a little smaller than we’re used to.

Just in time when students are set to return to school within the next few weeks, Microsoft has now made the latest version of its CAS-like Microsoft Mathematics software free to download, meaning that you can now make more advanced calculations on your computer.

The software replicates a fully functioning graphics calculator (or, what many students call it, a CAS calculator) and allows you to solve equations using the concepts of chemistry, calculus, algebra, physics and trigonometry. And for students, especially those doing VCE or HSC (or the equivalent), it may be helpful if you have forgotten your CAS.

That, or too lazy to get it out of your bag.

Anyway, it comes in 32-bit and 64-bit versions and is only works if you are on Windows 7, Windows Vista SP2 or Windows XP SP3. It will also require you to install the .NET Framework 3.5, which is also a free download.

You can download it Microsoft Mathematics at Microsoft’s Download site.

Don’t forget you will NEED iTunes 9.2 in order to update iPhone. iOS 4 does NOT work with iPhone 1st Gen or iPod touch 1st Gen. And yes, it’s free for everyone. Even you, iPod touch user.

‘Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead is a retro de-make of Valve’s hit zombie killing masterpiece. Lovingly recreated in a fashion that would have been acceptable in 1986 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, this de-make stands as the flagship title of the upcoming Pixel Force series from Eric Ruth Games. Go alone, or invite a friend for 2 player co-op against the zombie apocalypse in all 4 of the original game campaigns. 2 difficulties and all 4 of the survivors make a glorious 8-bit appearance, complete with first and second tier weapons scattered along your path to escape. So, grab your controller of choice and kick back with an award-winning retro take on the end of the world with Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead.’

Ever needed to convert a video for your iPhone, iPod Touch, Apple TV or just simply, your computer? Never found a suitable program? Don’t want to fork out any money? Then HandBrake is for you!

HandBrake is an open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder, available for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows. Convert a DVD to iPod Touch in less that 1 hour with less than 5 clicks! HandBrake is easy to use and fast to convert. It will not copy licenced DVD’s if you are converting on Windows (use another program for decyption) otherwise if you are on Mac or Linux, get VLC and have your retail DVD’s converted for you to watch on your iPod Touch/iPhone/Apple TV.

Download a copy of HandBrake today! Download Here

While Google Chrome and Firefox are arguably the two most popular browser alternatives to the monopolistic Internet Explorer (sorry Opera and Safari fanboys), why not merge the two into some weird, yet “sexy” (according to one comment) twist. Introduce Chromifox 2, a skin for Firefox 3 that makes it look like the Chrome browser. While you don’t get the “tabs being separate windows” feature or the tabs being on the top, you will get the customisation features of Firefox 3.

Either way, Mac and Linux users will be flocking to download this – since Google hasn’t released a version of Chrome to work with Mac or Linux. You can find it here – but you will need to get an account since it is in “experimental stage”.
