http://www.google.com.au/intl/en/images/about_logo.gifGoogle has taken a public stand against a new proposition that would see gay marriages being illegal again, after the California Supreme Court recently overturned the ban a few months ago, and will also amend in its constitution that would see marriage between a man and a women valid in California.

Custom-furniture-theme-throne-chair2-2

The Galactic Throne is a custom built seat made from steel and leather, and it is obviously looking like a sci-fi command chair, with padding like the Dark Lord. And you can have it for US$5,500. But hey, you can act like a total wacky space dictator controlling the Seven Stars of crap.

The Journal : What a week…

Edit Staff
08 June 2008, 20:52

OK, so we didn’t put much content up on The Journal, TECHGEEK or GamesArena (looking at all my other editors). Mainly, we have been suffering the effects of the Exams finishing and etc.

But look on the bright side, we have some great content on The Journal in the past few days, since we announced that we will be covering the lead up to the US Presidential race there

Clinton looked at her final moments of her campaign by saying goodbye to her staff and did a final rally, supporting her former rival - Barack Obama.

Meanwhile, we had some TV news - including that the Queen’s Birthday AFL match won’t be live in Melbourne, and Temptation was rested.

And finishing off the week, a video - a remix created by someone who remixed an episode from South Park which was about web phenomenons, which became a web phenomenon itself.

So there you go. Enjoy!

Golden Age For The iPhone

Kenny Yeoh
29 May 2008, 19:04

In case just having an iPhone isn’t good enough of a statement for you, soon you’ll be able to have an iPhone plated in 24k GOLD. I’m not going to say it looks bad, because it doesn’t (it is an iPhone, after all!), but I will say the concept is a little over the top and a bit ridiculous, especially once people realize it is in fact real gold.

Retailing for £699.95 (approx. US$1450), the gold iPhone is plated with struck 24ct gold. The parts are adorned in gold including front full surround and 3/4 of the rear revealing a total mirror finish. The creator of the gold iPhone is a family run business, specializing in precious metal plating. They offer a range of MP3 devices and phones laden with yellow, rose or white gold. For those wanting a phone that makes an even more serious statement, why not purchase the Motorola KZR Leopard Diamond Edition for a lazy £14,995 (more than US$3000).

Coming Soon: Torchwood

Torchwood, which comes back in Jan. 16, is one of my favourite shows. I really don’t mind the gore; maybe it’s because I’m just desensitised. Anyway, I can’t wait. Basically, I’m getting them from the UK (from somewhere I can’t tell you or I will incriminate myself) because Channel Ten, who has the rights, will most likely put them up on the summer of 2008 at late night or during the ratings season at late night.

So, here are some clips from YouTube.

The Strike that halted television

Terence Huynh
03 December 2007, 6:32

The Writers Strike in America has seen many shows close off production, and has seen some shows taken off the air and replaced by repeats. Now it’s December, and with some shows only have so few episodes to broadcast; how will television in the US cope. Well, they will most likely get reality television in the mix.

Another idea that has plagued my mind, why don’t they just import programming? In Australia, UK and mostly any channel around the world imports programs from the US. Why don’t they do the same? They could import some shows from Australia, UK, New Zealand or any English programs around the world. At least that’s better than watching someone making an idiot out of themselves.

But how will our television channels cope? That’s a different story. Seven and Ten have ‘fast tracked’ some of their popular shows to beat those torrent downloaders, however it has seen a decrease in ratings over at Seven. Prison Break is now under 1 million viewers, as it is placed on a timeslot where The Chasers are on ABC. Heroes has also a decrease, but not as bad as Prison Break.

But, mostly all shows are usually broadcast in February. This is because of the Term Holidays for children, and the Australian Open for Seven. The rating season, however, kicks off in mid-January. So, they will have enough episodes for them to last until March or April.

In Australian Television, we are usually now starting to follow UK Television on producing dramas, with some having a 13 episode series and some can take up an entire rating season, meaning that we produce at least 40 episodes per year.

NBC, being desperate for content, has aquired the broadcasting rights to the MySpace drama Quarterlife. MySpace is owned by News Corp., who also owns FOX and My Network TV. Does this mean that broadcasters are actually looking at the online world for content? Maybe so, but mostly not. Broadcasters will usually get their shows from their production arm of the company, but will also broadcast another company’s production if the execs believe it will be a success. House, for example, is produced by Universal Media Studios (NBC Universal) and is broadcast on FOX.

OK, that’s a lot to digest down, and it maybe doesn’t make any sense. But, let’s have a look at the shows that are finishing in the coming months…

House (FOX) - 3 left scheduled in Jan. 2008, one after Superbowl.
Samantha Who? (ABC) - Six more episodes to go.
Family Guy (FOX) - Repeats and new episodes scheduled in Jan. 2008.
CSI Franchise, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Without a Trace, Cold Case (CBS) - Down to 4 or fewer episodes apiece.
Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, Pushing Daises (ABC) - Each only having 2 episodes left.
Desperate Housewives (ABC) - Airs final episode.
The Office (NBC) - No episode, repeats.
Heroes (NBC) - Airs final episode on December 3.
K-Ville (FOX) - 2 more episodes to go.
Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Rules of Engagement (CBS) -No episodes.

Now, let’s see what’s happening with those premiering in Jan. 2008…

Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles - 2 night premiere (Jan 13 & 14). 13 episodes completed.
Medium (NBC) -9 episodes completed.
Jericho (CBS) - 7 episodes.
The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS) - 8 episodes.
Cashmere Mafia (ABC) - 7 episodes.

Watching the Election?

Terence Huynh
20 November 2007, 6:57

This is starting to get a bit off topic, but I’m just writing this as technology seems to have taken hold; with Labor committing with HD and a improvement to the broadband speeds.

The ABC and Nine are providing coverage, like they always do; with Nine having ex-Chaser star Charles Firth to help out with the coverage and will have Helen Coonan and Wayne Swan. The ABC will be hosted by, again, Kerry O’Brien and also Tony Jones (from Lateline), with Julia Gillard and Nick Minchin as their pollies du jour (whatever that means)…

Then comes newcomer Seven, providing coverage over the election this time. Let’s just hope that they actually have graphics, and not the ones overused on Seven News’ graphics. Hosted by the Sunrise duo, Kochie and Mel, will be joined by Deal or No Deal host, Andrew O’Keefe. They will be joined by Joe Hockey, Tanya Plibersek, Barnaby Joyce, and some political experts.

SBS and Ten are also providing coverage, but not as the ABC, Nine and Seven. Ten and SBS will provide a news bulletin to cover the election when the announcement has been made.

During that time, Ten is showing The Empire Strikes Back, which is kinda political… but with battles and alien scenes, and not real. SBS brings in Top Gear and The Long Way Round. If only Jeremy Clarkson would just do the elections, then that would be enjoyable.

And if you are thinking of switching channels, you are out of luck. Neither commercial channels are not going to put commercials until the result has been called. So either you stick it out with Seven, Nine or the ABC; or have different TVs covering it. Though, if you are voting for the Greens; you are going to hurt the environment.

A third option would be watching Foxtel, specifically Sky News. It’s going to have commercials and that means you can switch between Sky, Seven, Sky, Nine, Sky and the ABC. Or you could just use the internet…
