iPod touch gets new skin, lower price

The new iPod touch has arrived, and according to Engadget, it will still have the same screen size and capacity lineup – but with a lower price point. There is also some hardware tweaks, like a built-in speaker, and a Nike+ receiver. There are also some UI tweaks as well.

Rumour Mill : Is iTunes getting subscriptions?

MacRumors and other Apple blogs are reporting that a tipster has said that there will be a $129-a-year iTunes subscription that would go hand-in-hand with the MobileMe service.

The new service will offer unlimited access to half of the iTunes store for $129 a year, or $179 for a combo deal with subscriptions with iTunes and MobileMe – in the US only; and if you you have a MobileMe subscription, you just need to fork out $99.99 for the iTunes deal.

Japan demands probe into Nano combustion

After two recent incidents in Japan where the first-generation iPod overheated and caused minor fires; the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has issued a warning to the music player. In total, there have been 14 incidents relating to the iPod Nano’s exploding battery, according to news sources in Japan, and the ministry has ordered Apple to investigate.

Apple has announced the worst kept secret in town – the 3G iPhone. It is much thinner, faster and is cheaper than the first-gen iPhone. The 8GB will now cost US$199 (with a two-year contract), with GPS that will work on the AT&T’s 3G cellular network. A 16GB will be $299.

Apple plans for third Australian store

The Age is reporting that Apple will have three official retailers this year, including two Sydney stores and another in Chadstone, Victoria.

These stores are part of an aggressive international expansion and will be part of the company’s lucrative network of 200 stores, many of them based in the US.

Apple iTunes to sell BBC shows in UK


UK TV ON iTUNES: BBC signs deal that would see many of its shows up for download in the UK

British viewers will now be able to download a section of BBC programmes from the Apple iTunes Store, bringing it in line with all of the television networks in the US, including NBC (NBC Universal), ABC (Disney), CBS (CBS Corporation), FOX (News Corp.) and The CW (CBS Corporation/Time Warner).
