News Limited is reportedly launching a brand new news service or hub called “NewsPlus”. Plans on the new venture are scarce, but the service will feature a paywall to access some content – similar to the Herald Sun and The Australian.
According to media publication Influencing, News Limited has already bought the domain name “newsplus.com.au” (via its pseudonym ‘News Domain Administrator’) and has registered two trademarks – “NEWSPLUS” and “NEWS+“. Both are still pending approval.
The logo uses a similar font and colour scheme to the its NEWS.com.au website – according to Influencing; leading to suggestions that News+/NewsPlus could be the paywall service for NEWS.com.au. I say that it most likely would be a combined name for upcoming paywalls for papers like The Daily Telegraph and The Courier Mail – who have not implemented a paywall, unlike The Herald Sun.
News Limited declined to comment to Influencing’s story.
