HTC has revealed the Desire X, a brand new Android phone that promises to deliver a state-of-the-art camera, a dual-core Snapdragon S4 1GHz processor, Beats Audio support and a 4-inch display, all with an affordable price of $299 prepaid.

Yes, you may be wondering, what? Seriously? It sounds weird – given that prepaid phones tend to be cheap and not running on Ice Cream Sandwich, and not certainly with a dual-core processor and a 4-inch screen. That being said, while it is a 4-inch screen, it’s not HD – it has a screen resolution of 800 x 480.

The phone will also feature 4GB of storage and 768MB of RAM; and a 5-megapixel lens that has auto-focus, smart LED flash and a BSI sensor to assist in low-light photo capturing. There is also continuous shooting support.

The phone will be available on a $35 Optus Cap plan with $0 upfront costs. No release date has been set, but given that you’re expected to spend $840 for 24 months, or $299 for prepaid – much better on prepaid.
