#facepalm – EA and DreamWorks to partner for “Need for Speed” film

By on

We all know movies based on games suck (unless they are animated and are from Japan) – but that hasn’t stopped EA announcing that it will partner with DreamWorks to produce a new Need for Speed film based on the series.

John and George Gatins have been enlisted to write the film. Never heard of them? Well, according to their IMDB profile, George Gatins is behind such films such as My Wife is Retarded, You Stupid Man and She’s Out of My League. The last two were poorly received by critics. John, however, wrote the screenplay Real Steel, Coach Carter, and Summer Catch.

So expect something really, really cheesy.

John Gatins and Mark Sourian, alongside EA, will produce the film. Scott Waugh, who directed Act of Valor, is also directing theNeed for Speed film.

The film will be released in 2014. And yes, I’m praying for the end of the world at the end of 2012.
