After being the Wii’s runaway success for more than a year, before dropping down to second place by the Xbox 360, Nintendo is about to release their successor to the popular console, with some hinting at an announcement at E3 this year.
According to Game Informer, citing multiple sources, the console will be out in 2012 and will able to handle HD graphics – though it is unknown if it will match its rivals. Though HD graphics, something noticeably absent in the console, will obviously attract more games development especially with third party – and hopefully satisfy hardcore gamers, something that Nintendo has rarely done for its home consoles.
It is also hinted that the new console could be a departure entirely from the Wii, especially with its controller. Or it could support both motion wand controllers and the ‘normal’ controllers that you might see on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.
“Nintendo is doing this one right… [It's] not a gimmick like the Wii,” one source said to Game Informer.
