Tab-lovers unite: Chrome for a Cause announced by Google

By on

If you are like me you’d have at least 5 tabs open right now. But just think, what if opening a tab didn’t just help you? What if other, less fortunate, people benefited from you simply opening a new tab?

Well, Google has done the thinking for us by releasing a “Chrome for a Cause” extension into the wild. And here’s how it works.

From December 15-19, every tab opened (with this extension installed) will determine how much awesomeness will be donated by Google to a charity. Here’s the list of goodies you could be giving and how many tabs are needed:

  • 10 tabs = 1 tree planted
  • 10 tabs = 1 book published and donated
  • 25 tabs = 1 vaccination treatment provided
  • 100 tabs = 1 square foot of shelter built
  • 200 tabs = 1 person’s clean water for a year

To participate, just download the extension (for Chrome), and every day you will be asked to click the extension to submit your score. Then relax, and let everybody know that your internet addiction is helping more than just your ISP.
