Comedy Central has joined a long list of television channels that will bring out a high definition channel, with the debut of Comedy Central HD being launched on Cablevision Systems today, then will roll out the service to Cox Communications and DirecTV later this month.

The channel will feature 200 hours of programming in native HD, with almost 30 of the past episodes of South Park, the first two seasons of The Sarah Silverman Program and countless hours of comedian stand up performances, as well as acquired films.

Also adding to its HD lineup will be the new seasons of South Park and Reno 911!, and the series premieres of Krod Mandoon and The Flaming Sward of Fire. However, the popular The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report will be presented on the HD channel as an upconversion of the original feed, but will not be made given the HD upgrade until a later date.
