Firefox has this neat feature where it can be used as a search box as well. However, unlike the search box, it is reliant on Google. Sometimes, we need to give the other search engines a chance. So, in this TECHGEEK Quick Tip, we are going to teach you how to change the search feature on the address bar from Google to Yahoo and Windows Live.

I bet you are now screaming: Why in the F**k would I do that? Well, we are doing this to keep this fair and balanced. (Now I’m starting to sound like Fox News!)

In our previous tip, we showed you the basics of the about:config in Firefox. You should read this before doing this tutorial, since this will tell you some basic functions of the about:config page. We will still put in the instructions the steps on how to do the about:config if you are just too lazy to read.

This is a Developing Story. Check back here once in a while for more added content about the QLD outage.

Whirlpool is reporting that Optus is experiencing a major outage in Queensland and in Northern New South Wales because of simultaneous network failures.

Optus has said the problem came after a construction mishap, thus cutting all internet and telecommunication services from Queensland. The outage occurred around 8:00 am, and has affected many other ISPs, including Primus. It is also understood that the problems occurred at the Moorooka Exchange, which is owned by Optus and provides the ADSL services around the state.

Primus, however, is saying that a farmer accidentally cut the cables with his backhoe.

Meanwhile, Highway 1 - another of the ISPs affected - is saying that it should be fixed by 3PM today. We are also hearing reports that services are slowly being restored. However, it is more likely that it would miss this deadline, like in our previous story.

The Pope has sent his first text message to thousands of World Youth Day pilgrims who had sign up to receive messages of divine "direction"; with Telstra erecting eight temporary base stations to allow pilgrims to send text messages to their friends and family.

As well, four giant digital "prayer walls" have been erected at four sites, the Opera House, the Domain, Darling Harbour and Randwick Racecourse. Those who have signed up to the messages will be able to send a message to the "prayer walls".

His message, for today, was: "Young friend, God and his people expect much from u because u have within you the Father’s supreme gift: the Spirit of Jesus - BXVI."

Telstra mobile customers can subscribe for free by texting the word "Pope" to 0400 495 111.

Netflix, a US movie rental service, is set to stream its movies and TV Shows on the Xbox 360 in the fall, meaning that many subscribers of the service will now be able to watch the 10,000 movies and TV shows in their collection.

This comes to its new Live Party feature, coming to the Xbox 360 soon. This means you can watch the same movie as eight other people, or watch a movie from one of your friends - meaning that you can basically watch the same crap your friends are watching.

But, we should also note that Netflix’s CEO Reed Hastings sits on the board of directors over at Microsoft. Though he claims it is not related.

Whirlpool is reporting that Optus is experiencing a major outage in Queensland and in Northern New South Wales because of simulatneous network failures.

According to them, a fibre link between the two states were damaged at the same time when its hardware failed. It affects all services, including internet access, mobile and landlines. This is also affecting all other ISPs who rely on the link.

They say that the service will be restored by 1PM today.

Apple has said that just three days after its launch on Friday July 11, it has reached the 1 million mark; even though the hype wasn’t there (in those who got the first gen iPhone) and the lines were not that long.

The iPhone was sold in 21 different countries, including Australia, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Hong Kong and New Zealand. The iPhone is now going to be sold in France in a couple of days time, on July 17.

For the Apps store, users went and downloaded up to 10 million apps so far, even though there were 500 at launch, meaning that roughly 20,000 download the same app (do the math!). But while you can just argue that this is just another phone, it is not. It is a platform, where you create applications for not only for the iPhone 3G, but for the 1st gen iPhone and the iPod Touch.

Wow - I really must be an Apple fanboy (who also likes Windows).
