LiveJournal, popular with many fanfiction and rape survivor groups, have suspended more than 500 accounts. Users were outraged with this as LiveJournal was hoping to ‘protect children’ as some sites, like Warriors for Innocence, were promoting paedophilia, the sexual abuse of minors, and other illegal activities.
LiveJournal have been popular with many fanfiction writers, including Harry Potter slash fiction. Creative forms of activism includes a group of “pro-fandom” with already 22,817 members (and counting). Even so, members are also switching to the clones of LiveJournal; which includes GreatestJournal and InsaneJournal, as a protest.
LiveJournal has posted an apology, claiming that they stuffed up.
Another issue we needed to deal with was journals that used a thin veneer of fictional or academic interest in events and storylines that include child rape, pedophilia, and similar themes in order to actually promote these activities. While there are stories, essays, and discussions that include discussion of these issues in an effort to understand and prevent them, others use a pretext to promote these activities. It’s often very hard to tell the difference. As such, we have suspended reported journals that do not clearly and substantially object to these activities while at the same time portraying them.

Google has announced Google Gears, an open source platform that will allow GMail or any web application offline. ZDNet Australia is reporting that Adobe is working with Google to help it become a global standard. However, an analyst from IBRS says that this new plan, even if it allows other applications, will not dent the global stranglehold of Microsoft Office.

BBC has now reporting that CBS Corporation (that owns CBS, which in turn broadcasts NCIS and CSI in America) has bought last.fm for $280 million, making it the largest UK Web 2.0 acquisition ever. last.fm opened five years ago in the UK, using the Audioscrobbler technology to use what you play on your iTunes or Windows Media Player on the web. The company will still run independently from CBS.

Boing Boing has written that Finland is now allowing you to break the CSS DRM on your DVD, as Finish law only protects “effective” DRM, and since it’s been broken many times; this means it’s no longer protected!

Hey,
We got it working again. We re-recorded the podcast and we got the first episode working. Now I need to get a new microphone.
You can find more information at http://techgeek.scorerightservices.com/live/. That’s where you get the show notes for when it’s my turn to host and all the information about the podcast. StormX [aka James] will host next week’s podcast, while Stewart will host the week after.
See Ya!

Due to problems with recording our podcast, we have to do it again… so yes, it will be recorded late at night (if Stewart goes online) or early tomorrow morning…
Show Notes will be provided and as well, a filler podcast will be created if the show is ever delayed again
Sorry!
P.S- We are NOT using Skypecasts as it’s crap, and the recording facilities don’t allow us to record unless we pay US$29.95. If you want, don’t forget to donate…

If you have a MyBlogLog, and you read this blog… join the community. We can’t have a group with Jaiku [I'm a member] because they don’t allow it. And I must not forget to thank 9rules creator Scrivs for suggesting that I go to MyBlogLog… Thanks; and if there is spam, complain to him not me…
